Vacation Anticipation | A Real Euphoria

This post contains no advice from any medical perspective. These are solely my opinions.

If you’re like me, I have “vacation anticipation.” It’s a term that means you just CAN’T WAIT until your vacation and everything you do that leads up to it makes you have a high state of euphoria. Whether you’re the type of person that plans out a full itinerary or not, you may still have this.

If you ever have taken a vacation, you most likely know what I’m talking about. Here is a checklist. If you answer yes to all 3 of these, then you have what I call “vacation anticipation.”

Vacation Anticipation?

  1. You get giddy inside (or express it outside) when you finally make it legit by booking your flights and/or hotel.
  2. You think about your vacation EVERY SINGLE DAY leading up to it.
  3. You have a countdown on your computer and/or calendar.

How did you do?

So, what makes us have this euphoria now versus any other day of our life? Here are my collection of thoughts. You may experience one or more than one of these.

You…

  1. Need more excitement in your life.
  2. May not enjoy your job.
  3. Live in a rut.
  4. Are going through a difficult moment in your life.
  5. Don’t appreciate the little things in life.
  6. Don’t laugh often.
  7. Need some close friendships.
  8. Are overloaded at work.
  9. Don’t have someone to vent to.
  10. Lack sleep.

Can you relate? Well, I’m a mom and if you’re a mom, you can relate to a lot of these! A vacation to me is a time to do three things.

  • Experience new scenery.

  • Try new foods.

  • A time to reflect and enjoy the moments to make memories.
